Shumbalala Game Lodge is situated in the heart of the in the private Thornybush reserve, part of the greater Kruger National Park area, approximately 50km (30miles) from Hoedspruit.

Travel Infomation

Access by Air to Nearest Airport

Airlink has daily flights from Cape Town and OR Tambo International Airport (previously known as Johannesburg International Airport) to Hoedspruit Airport (also known as Eastgate airport). From there we will arrange a short transfer of approximately 30 minutes to the reserve.

Airlink also flies daily from Johannesburg and Cape town to KMIA (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) close to Nelspruit. From there guests can either take a short charter by air (of 25 minutes) directly onto the reserve or alternatively a road transfer of between 2 and 3 hours can be arranged.

Airlink also operate daily flight from Johannesburg and Cape town to Skukuza Airport located in the Kruger National Park. From there guests can either take a short by air (of 25 minutes) directly onto the reserve or alternatively a road transfer of 3 hours can be arranged.

Airport Transfers

Transfer can be arranged by Shumbalala at an additional cost

Eastgate Airport is the closest airport with a short 30 minute transfer to Thornybush Nature Reserve

Alternatively MQP also known as KMIA. The transfer time is about 2.5 hours

Directions by Road

Guests also have the option of travelling to Shumbalala Game Lodge by guided or private transfers. This offers the opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the towns and scenery en-route. Average drive time from Johannesburg is 5 hours but a stopover in the scenic town of Dullstroom for lunch will extend this to 6 hours….or more.

Drive time from Nelspruit KMIA airport is between 2 and 3 hours.

Access by Air with Private Charter

These can be arranged from Johannesburg or Cape Town for flights directly onto the reserve which has a private tarred airstrip where your ranger will collect you and take you on a short game drive to the camp of Shumbalala Game Lodge.
